My girlfriend was quick to criticize my purchase of the Phonak Audéo  PFE’s.

“You would spend that much money, in this economy, on the initial offering of an earphone a by a hearing aid company in Switzerland?”

I had read a number of positive reviews – they are all over the Internet.They seemed to be just what I was looking for, so I held my ground. While I was waiting on them to arrive, I have to admit, I started to have second thoughts myself. After all, there are a lot of very good products out there today…maybe I should have chosen one by a company who had been making them a lot longer…maybe one of those you see in the big-box stores?

Well, it has been 3 weeks since my Audéo  PFE’s arrived. Seriously, if I made one mistake, it was when – with a big grin on my face – I practically forced my girlfriend to try them out with the black filters and comply ear tips. BIG MISTAKE! Now I find myself competing for use of the Audéo ’s with her – she likes them that much!

These extremely light weight earphones perform every bit as nicely on her new iPod as they do on my old and beat-up little Sansa Clip. I listen to Jazz and Folk while she listens mostly to Electronica with a bit of Country thrown in – we do live in Nashville and she does work in the Music Industry after all! The definition and clarity astounds the both of us and I honestly am at a loss for words to describe just how delighted I am with my new Phonak Audéo  PFE’s.

For anyone considering a portable headphone I would only ask that they read the reviews that are out there – and believe what you read! These are a real pleasure and what will reach your ears is music exactly as it was meant to sound. I only wish that I could get to listen to them a little more…<sigh>.

First off, the sound quality is great, as advertised.  My music runs a wide gamut, and everything sounded crisp and clean. I tried both the foam and silicon tips, and both worked equally well.  I really appreciate having different sizes of silicon tips to try – they really allowed me to find the ones that fit best in my ear.  The button on the remote is nice, too. It’s easy to find and use, unlike on my Apple headphones.

I had to get used to the earguides and cords at first, but once everything was set, the sound was awesome and the fit nice, snug and comfy – it was great. In fact, almost too great!  The isolation was amazing. I wore them while biking around the city, and lent them to a friend who’s a runner.  She and I felt the same way, that they are SO GOOD in eliminating ambient noise and isolating the music.

The Audeos are everything they promise to deliver.  The sound is fantastic.  And the music is literally all you hear, thanks to the incredible job the headphones do of isolating noise.  They’re comfortable enough that at one point I almost forgot they were there.  Bottom line: When all I want is to enjoy my music and shut the noise from the rest of the world out, these are the headphones I’ll use.
